Description
Fridge to Food is a recipe database and sharing community. The goal is to make cooking a piece of cake for people of any skill or inclination. It will do this by making it easy to find really good, really tasty recipes in a number of ways. Fridge to Food will allow users to search its recipes based on ingredient lists. That way, you don’t have to already have a food in mind. You can just throw open your fridge, take stock of the contents and then search for recipes using those foods and only those foods. It will also allow you to browse for recipes in certain categories (tags). Anyone will be able to retag recipes, so that the tags will be thorough and up to date. In addition to all this, it will feature a voting and cookie system. Users may vote on recipes (up or down) that they like or dislike. When they vote a recipe up, the posting user gets cookies. When they vote a recipe down the posting user loses cookies. In this way, users can rate both other users and the recipes they post. Cookies can be used as a measure of how much the site trusts you as a cook. The more cookies you have the better a cook you are likely to be. The more cookies you have, the more you’ll be able to do on the site.
History
Fridge to Food was begun in November of 2009. The idea occurred to me while Shelly and I were attempting to come up with a plan for dinner that didn’t involve leaving the house. Finding a recipe using only the ingredients that existed in our refrigerator turned out to be nearly impossible. There was nothing that would do this for us on the web. So I decided to make something to do it. Two frantic months of working on it every spare moment later and the private beta has begun accepting testers.
Current State
Fridge to Food is currently in public beta. Go check it out, post a recipe, post an image or do some voting!
